Another opportunity to run, walk for vocations Minimize
Another opportunity to run, walk for vocations

Hawaii Catholics are invited to another “AKUA Run/Walk for Vocations” race. This time on the Big Island — the Kona Marathon & Family Fun Run in Kailua-Kona, June 28.

Director of vocations Father Peter Dumag has headed up this foot-powered campaign to promote vocations to the priesthood and religious life through participation in Hawaii marathons and other races.

AKUA asks Catholics to run or walk in local races and pledge their efforts toward prayers for more vocations from the islands. Those that can’t walk can make spiritual pledges on behalf of others.

When a person submits a pledge form to the Office of Vocation, he or she receives a red “AKUA Run/Walk for Vocations” T-shirt. Forms can be found at aloharunforvocations.blogspot.com.

The Kona Marathon & Family Fun Run offers four ways to participate: a 26.2-mile marathon, a 13.1-mile half-marathon, a 10 kilometer run/walk and a 5 kilometer run/walk. They all start at 5:30 a.m. at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach resort and follow the Ironman Triathlon running route.

More information and online registration can be found at konamarathon.com.

The face of Mary is shown in a detail, side view of "The Virgin of the Immaculate Conception," a painted and gilded statue attributed to Juan Martinez Montanes. It is among the religious artworks on display until May 31 in "The Sacred Made Real" exhibit at the National Gallery of Art in Washington.
