St. Francis event to showcase award-winning entertainers

A slate of Na Hoku Hanohano award winners will entertain at “An Evening of Aloha,” a concert sponsored by St. Francis Healthcare Foundation of Hawaii and Hawaiian 105 KINE radio station, 7 p.m. Oct 9, at the Hawaii Theatre.

They include singer Raiatea Helm, ukulele whiz Jake Shimabukuro and the group Ho‘okena.

A multi-media event, “Na Leo Lanakila (Voices of Triumph),” will showcase live performances of music, hula and songs, with video vignettes about the services of St. Francis Healthcare System that touch the lives of many in the community.

Other performers include the Kamehameha Children’s Choir under the direction of Lynell Bright and the Kamehameha Hawaiian Ensemble under the direction of kumu hula Kaleo Trinidad. Radio personality Billy V will be the master of ceremonies.

The concert “not only features the best in Island entertainment, but also shares the story of the Sisters of St. Francis” who have been meeting the health care needs of Hawaii’s people for the past 127 years, said Sister of St. Francis William Marie Eleniki, chief administrator of St. Francis Healthcare Foundation of Hawaii, in a news release.

“We look forward to a full house,” she said.

Tickets are $25, $35, $50 and $75 and may be purchased from the Hawaii Theatre box office by calling 528-0506 or online at www.hawaiitheatre.com.

Corporate sponsorships, from $1,000 to $25,000, are also available and include passes to receptions before and after the concert. Call 547-8030 for information on sponsorships.

St. Francis and 105 KINE established An Evening of Aloha as a biennial event to celebrate Hawaii’s best entertainers. Past events have honored the late Auntie Genoa Keawe (2002), the late Don Ho (2004) and Danny Kaleikini (2006).

Proceeds from the event will benefit the sisters’ health care ministries in Hawaii which include home health care; emergency response services; bathing services for disabled or frail elders; healthy lifestyle programs for children and adults; outreach to the homeless; adult day care and caregiver respite; and quality affordable housing.
