‘New’ Catholic Charities Moves Ahead

Six months after Bishop Joseph A. Ferrario announced sweeping plans to reorganize the agency formerly known as Catholic Social Service, some of the proposed changes have been fully implemented; others exist only in the most embryonic stages of development.

… Catholic Social Services has been divided into three separate agencies, under the administration of the diocesan Office of Catholic Charities, to serve the elderly, families, and refugees and immigrants.

Golf prodigy a product of Star of the Sea School

Michelle Wie didn’t learn to play golf at Star of the Sea School in Waialae-Kahala, but she learned a whole lot of other things. And her teachers at the school are proud to say that the 10-year-old super golfer is a product of the Hawaii Catholic School system.

On July 4, the 5-foot, 7-inch young lady teed off at the 24th U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links championship in Aberdeen, N.C., made the qualifying cut and became the youngest amateur to play in a United States Gold Association tournament. …

Michelle received the Principal’s Award three years in a row at Star of the Sea for her “service, character, academic ability and for being a great role model,” Zbin added.
