The Christian Leadership Institute-Hawaii is looking for high school students in grades 10-12 who want to develop skills for leadership in Christian ministry.
CLI-HI, a week-long experience June 18-22 at St. Stephen Diocesan Center in Kaneohe, will challenge young people to share insights, knowledge and learning experiences in group settings to reinforce their leadership talents and skills for use in their own situations.
The institute is designed to foster growth in each participant’s personal and communal faith by taking part in and planning daily prayer and worship, and contributing to sessions particularly focused on prayer and Christian leadership.
A journaling process will encourage participants to log their reflections each day and to consider what they have learned about themselves, their gifts, skills and growth, and their faith and community identity.
While the week has a Catholic context, it is not a retreat. It is a learning institute that is a lot of fun, but also a lot of work. The environment of Christian prayer and liturgy are integral to the week, but the emphasis is not on improving one’s relationship with Christ; it is on learning leadership skills. Behavior that reflects Christian leadership is expected.
The institute is open to high school youth in grades 10-12 who exhibit leadership potential. They should be willing to be involved in parish youth ministry or school campus ministry after their training.
The cost for CLI-HI is $300 per participant which covers tuition, room and board, and materials. Space is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, contact the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry at 203-6763 or oyyam@rcchawaii.org.
